Shadowsong|OW Welcome to the eighth European IRC dev chat!
Satine Good evening everyone and welcome to this month's European Dev chat! With our second free content update for
Satine subscribers looming on the horizon, we hope you've got lots of questions lined up to ask the folks from Turbine.
Satine With us tonight from Turbine we have the following people:
Scenario Good evening everyone! My name is Matt "Scenario" Elliott - lead Worldbuilder for LOTRO. The world team is responsible for building the landscape and making previously skittish monsters stomp you into the ground.
Keth_Turbine I'm Keth. I like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain.
Denour Hello Everybody! My name is Andy "Denour" Gillis, and I am one of the Game System Engineers (Game Programmer / Code Monkey) on Lord of The Rings Online.
Keth_Turbine Oh, I'm also the Lead Content Designer.
Denour (He's also Tardy)
Keth_Turbine blame the stupid anti-virus software.
LOTRO_Patience Hi everyone! I'm Meghan "Patience" Rodberg, community manager for LOTRO at Turbine. Thanks for coming tonight.
Satine And I'm Sam "Satine" Russell, the Senior Community Manager for LOTRO Europe!
Constant_Garden Hey all, Constant from Systems, I'm in charge of fun.
LOTRO_Patience So you say. Lies!
Keth_Turbine and by fun he means pain.
Shadowsong|OW [Leirah] Good evening devs! I was wondering if you could give us some more information about the reputation system. Will it be based on quests or will you have to grind all the way? Also, what kind of benefits will u get when u get reputation with a faction?
Keth_Turbine So there are three main sources of reputation in the reputation system.
Keth_Turbine There are quests, monster kills and crafting.
Keth_Turbine It does involve some effort from you to gain faction, but we don't think it will be too hard of a slog to increase you reputation with a specific faction.
Keth_Turbine the sorts of rewards you can get are new mount appearances that are a bit more "sturdy."
Keth_Turbine some specific class and racial stuff (the Captains will find they can get something unique from the dwarves.)
Keth_Turbine and.... that's about all I can think of at the moment.
Keth_Turbine oh, there are also some unique Rep Halls that are pretty cool looking.
Shadowsong|OW [Tharmar] what plans do you have in mind for new guild-rank revards?
Denour While we cant get into specific rewards, we will continue to add guild ranks and rewards to accompany them.
Shadowsong|OW [Wilbeard] There were suggestions about adding one of hinted zones on the map in the last dev chat, and then it was revealed that Annuminas would be opened up. I was wondering if you were still planning on opening anywhere else on the map, as there is still much speculation on the forums about this?
Scenario Hey there, Wilbeard. Annuminas is going to be opened for players to explore in our Book 10 update and it will include a variety of content and instances. Annuminas wasn't one of the locations I was hinting at, but you will be able to explore it with bok 10 as well (not a fill area, much smaller).
Scenario Later in the year/beginning of next year, we are looking towards a full area, which is also one of the locations hinted at the map. Now go forth and speculate!
Shadowsong|OW [Marrok[Embers]] Q: In the last dev chat (stratics) you mentioned having working player villages sussed, can we get more info on these?
Scenario We are happy to announce we've broken ground on our second neighborhood in the past week, near Michel Delving. In regards to craft and town services available in the neighborhoods, we are looking into making them available in our neighborhoods but what exactly will be available (and how it will be available) are still under discussion.
Scenario As for fishing in your neighborhood, we've thought a little bit about it - but we'd need to actually have fishing first.
Shadowsong|OW [Leirah] Will scholars ever be able to get a tracking skill just like miners have for example? And to stay on topic: are there plans for any new recipes comming to new books?
Constant_Garden Hi Leirah! I think tracking nodes for scholars is great! And since that's fun, we're adding it. As for new recipies, of course!
LOTRO_Patience I talked to the crafting dev about it recently - there are quite a few new recipes coming in Book 10.
Shadowsong|OW [Vetaro] Could you tell us, if these little details like the slow walking (sideways faster than forwards, hobbit animation looking weird) or the question-animation disturbing sitting-animations are at least on the way to be fixed?
LOTRO_Patience Hi Vetaro! The animations are under review, yes. It's a bigger task than you'd think, since every animation has a start/stop point, so a change in it can effect lots of other animations, but we're always looking at ways to improve them, and fix those that might need fixing.
Shadowsong|OW [Indigoo] If in the future new pvp zones are getting added, will they use the same idea as the Ettenmoores: bases who can be captured, full of NPC's? Or other ideas really simple like just Freeps vs Creeps, no guards, maybe in a smaller zone, or any other ideas?
Keth_Turbine Oooh, do we have ideas, but few I can really tell you about at the moment.
Keth_Turbine For instance, I can't tell you when we would add another Ettenmoors-like zone.
Keth_Turbine For instance, I can't tell you when we would add another Ettenmoors-like zone.
Keth_Turbine ha! Double paste!
Keth_Turbine However, we do plan on expanding Ettenmoors some more.
Keth_Turbine Currently we are planning on a nice addition for Book 11 that will make controlling the various keeps even more lucrative.
Keth_Turbine We also have some more rank rewards coming online. After that, it really depends on how we feel the Ettenmoors is going.
Keth_Turbine One thing we have discussed is adding another Monster Play class, but I couldn't tell you when that might become available.
Shadowsong|OW [Meeko007] I want to hear about Session Play. Anything you can tell us that was not in the new blub on the site? Will there be more than Ranger, Troll & Chicken as options? I personally would love to have the chance to see the game as a cat.:P
Keth_Turbine You are just seeing the beginning of our Session play system in Book 10.
Keth_Turbine But before we add more, we are going to see how it is received in Book 10 and then see where we can expand it from there.
Shadowsong|OW [Anonymous14] Where will be the houses of the players, which come with book 11?
Scenario We are currently planning four neighborhoods for the initial rollout of the system - one for each race. You'll be able to find houses to purchase near (but not in) Bree-town, Michel Delving, Duillond and Thorin's Hall. There are no racial restrictions on house purchase - so if you are an elf that can't live without a smial, you can purchase one.
Scenario As the system matures and grows, I wouldn't be surprised if we added more neighborhoods but the initial release will include just the four.
Shadowsong|OW [SubZeroo] Question to the Devs: When will we finally get the command for ingame time that has been so long promised? If it has already been implemented into the game at least the bigger part of the German community doesn't know how to see ingame time.
Keth_Turbine For Book 10, I updated the in-game UI time to be a bit more granular. (That till icon you see near your Mini-map in game.)
Keth_Turbine The tool-tip will still tell you what period of the day you are in (Day-time or Night-time).
Keth_Turbine In addition, it will also tell you if you are in the beginning, middle or end of a day. Our patch notes will give more specifics, but hopefully this will help you better gauge what time it is, in-game.
Shadowsong|OW [Tharmar] what do you think about a key-ring for the keys that could be found?
Constant_Garden Keyrings are a really nifty idea. We should do that!
